Early morning highlights:
Red-necked Phalarope - female still on reedbed, viewable closest from visitor centre
Ross's Goose - 1 on reedbed! Clearly a newly arrived vagrant, and not one of the local Snettisham birds...

Red-necked Phalarope still on reservoir from 1715 to 1830, good views off and on. Went and saw the Ross's Goose on the freshwater scrape which took off SW towards Kirton direction. Also drk Pintail, Greenshank, Little Ringed Plover. Many thanks PF, whats the reserve count now?? |

Hi Also visited Frampton Marsh on the 29th. Did not manage to see the Red Necked Phalarope but did see the Ross's Goose. Can anyone fill me in on it as I cannot find any mention of it in my books. Malcolm. |

I have not seen any reports of it today, but one in Leicestershire, has it moved across?? |

The beak colour and where the beak meets the lore there are distinct differences!!

I was going to spend the day at Gibraltar Point today but was lured to Frampton by the prospects of the Red Necked Phalerope in full summer plummage and a good weather forecast Shorts came out of the drawer for the first time this year - a big mistake as the wind at the coast was very cold. Perhaps the white legs frightened the birds away? Now to answer Katherines query - lots of other birders had the same idea but unfortunately to no avail. The phalerope had disappeared overnight as it wasn't seen by anybody today and I was there from just before nine and left at about eleven. It wasn't at Frieston either The Ross's Goose flew off last night according to John Harry Seen today were Garganey (male) Curlew Sandpiper Dunlin Greenshank Black Tailed Godwit Avocet Teal Pochard Gadwall Little Ringed Plover Ringed Plover Quail was heard in the wet field apparently Little Egret Common Tern 2 |
