After messages this afternoon of Black Terns present at Kirkby GP reserve, I had to go and observed 19 present along with the Little Gull still here and c100 Swift. Great sight! They were present mainly on pit North of reserve, but have blogged images of 3 taking a rest.
Thanks

Still at least three Black Terns this morning resting on the island, on the main reserve pit, plus the Little Gull. Between 05:15 and 05:45 in heavy rain.

Further to the web reports, I checked 6 Pits in the cluster around the LWT Hide today (1.30 - 2.30) for Black Terns :

Pit opposite the Sand/Gravel Extraction Office - 2 Black Terns (there at both 1.30 and 2.30pm)
LWT Hide Pit - 5 Black Terns on the large island, on/off
North Pit - 4 Black Terns feeding
Total - 11 Black Terns still in the area.
plus incl.
Little Gull - North Pit
Common Terns - 20+
Dunlin - 4 on large island LWT Pit
Common Sandpiper - on large island LWT Pit
Dozens of Swifts with Hirundines
Ruddy Ducks - 2 drakes (God bless 'em) on one of the 6 Pits.

Regards,

Freddy
