Notable afternoon at Chambers Farm Wood. Turtle Dove purring and probable Golden Oriele seen. I say probable because I saw it from 100 feet away, for about one second as it flew off, the size of a Starling and a flash of gold is all I recall (though of course it is really yellow). The only other possibility is a large escaped budgie perhaps !

Hi Aidan,

Have you considered Green Woodpecker? You often see a golden/yellow flash when they fly?

Coincidently; I have just had two adults feeding a juvenile bird on my lawn (in Fulbeck) this afternoon, a great sight.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Yes, I have carefully considered whether it was a Green Woodpecker. However, the brightness of the gold/yellow points away from this. I am open-minded about what exactly I saw and will be interested to see fellow members posts over the next month in case it is seen again. I am willing to give vetted members the exact location of the sighting if they telephone me on 07946 687532.

Aidan.
