The announcement by the newly arrived chiffchaff is sharp, repetative and far carrying. You can not escape the fact that the new noisy neighbours are back and have no respect for their residential company. Six are amongst us here at Far Ings and they want you to know.

A more rhythmic and relaxing presence was that of the 33 avocet sweeping the tidal silt for food. Almost conductorial (if that's a word) as they orchestrate themselves in a wet and murky world not befitting their glamor and style. They cam make you hum if you look at them for too long.

We have had 2 short eared owls yesterday and 2 barn owl too. I believe we had a redhead smew reported also.
