Hi,

A 2nd winter Iceland or Kumlien's Gull was on the Reedbed this afternoon, showing from the visitor centre from 3-4pm. This is the third consecutive day this (or another) Iceland/Kumlien's gull has been seen on the reserve. It appears there are at least three Iceland Gulls in the area, two of which show characteristics of Kumlien's. Perhaps an ideal opportunity to study these birds that may not happen again for many years. The best location is the Tip, where I intend to spend a bit of time over the next couple of days.

Cheers,

John

Have you any idea if this was the bird that Simon was querying on Saturday afternoon. I believe he tried to digi-scope it

I don't....Simon?

Simon did find it today and Paul S confirmed this is one of the three Iceland-types he's seen at the tip. Alex P said he'd seen this or another at the reserve during the past couple of days, but I don't know about Saturday. Interesting times....I really must have a look for some in detail.

John

Hi,

Iceland/Kumlien's gull showing well again today on Frampton Marsh reedbed from 3pm.

Hi Chris,

This was not the bird I tried to digi-scope on Saturday afternoon. That particular bird had a long bill and a sloping forehead. It appeared very similar to the image I have seen of the Caspian gull Paul Sullivan found.

Cheers,

Simon.

Hi,

the Iceland/Kumliens gull showed well again today from the Frampton Visitor Centre.
The bird arrived at 1440 and left at around 1530.

Cheers,

Simon.
