Kesteven RFC, Woodnook- one 23rd December very low over road - later one ( probably same bird) passed over garden off Coldharbour
Lane, Grantham.

Tree Sparrows in garden daily since early October - maximum 14 & have been joined by couple of House Sparrows.

One species missing from garden is Great Spotted Woodpecker - only seen once since summer after regular sightings
for over 10 years.

Dave,
Your lack of Great Spotted Woodpeckers came as no surprise. I usually ring anything from 5 to 10 at garden feeding sites during a year but only managed to catch my first for 2011 two days ago. Has anyone else noticed a decline?

I think Great Spotted Woodpeckers were hit hard by last winter's weather. We ringed none in the first half of 2011, when we would normally get most..........but have ringed 7 in recent months.

on the Woodpecker thread; I have noted a dearth of Green Woodpeckers this winter in the Torksey area - any comments?
