2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers on the beach between Horseshoe Point and North Coates Point briefly at 18.00.
After spending the day at Gib and not seeing a great deal we decided to call in at Horseshoe Point on the way home in the evening to check out the terns over high tide. We walked up towards North Coates Point on to the beach where there was a large mixed group of Ringed Plover and Dunlin loosely spread out. No sooner had we fixed the scope in their direction to scan through them we discovered 2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers together which were the closest birds to us. Panic set in and I fumbled for the camera to get a digiscope shot while Clare went to make a call to friends but when I looked through the scope again there was no sign of them. We scanned all around the beach and couldn't believe it but they had gone but all the other waders were still there. Despite a fairly extensive search we never did relocate them.
Due to time spent trying to re find them we didn't have time to check through the 2000 or so Common terns thoroughly but did see a single Black Tern, a juv Med Gull and 2 Little Stints.
regards
Wayne
