Hi Richard and Chris,
Your lists of species barely mention passerines. My experience of Gib at this time of year is the sea buckthorn can be alive with Whitethroats, Willow Warblers (998 ringed in one week in August 1985), Lesser Whitethroats etc. Are they not there or do your efforts concentrate on the sea and scrapes??

Hi Stuart
Today I didn't wander far from the path from the beach car park to the beach and the path from Tennysons to Jacksons hence my lack of warblers. The paths I walked were quiet (very quiet) as was the sea in contrast to Richards report from yesterday. I recorded about 48 species in contrast to Richards figure of 91

Stuart

Whitethroat activity does seem low at the momemt - maybe weather related.

However, the decline of the willow warbler is very serious from early asessment of the common bird census data - linnets also in very low numbers, but turtle dove stable or showing slight increase on previous survey in 2006 - I will give an update when the full analysis has been carried out.

Thanks Chris and Kev. I thionk the decline of Willow Warblers is county wide though I'm surprised at the lack of Whitethroat activity at Gib - I went ringing yesterday at Walesby Moor where I've been ringing for 30 years and young Whitethroats were everywhere (16 ringed). Something that I've never seen before was that some 10+ Whitethroats were feeding off the ears of wheat in an adjacent field - I had a close look and there were lots of small insects/aphids etc. Has anyone else seen this before?
