The Lincolnshire Bird Club

24 hours turned into 16 hour bird watch. I got very very tired and headed home for a very long sleep A total of 66 bird species and didn't visit Bradly woods and some other sites so I could have reached 80 species.

Highlights were;

4 Quail (Donna nook fields) A new bird for me
1 Corn bunting (Donna nook fields)
1 Cuckoo (Pye's hall)
3 Kingfisher (Ashby-cum fenby)
1 sparrowhawk with prey
100 Tufted duck
5 Teal
1 Tawny owl (Ashby-cum fenby)

Full report will follow on the Bird chat thread. This will be more detailed with a full list of birds seen and birds that I failed to see.

If you had spent the 16 hours at Gib you should have seen at least 90 species.

I would love to spend even an hour at Gib trying to get my dad to take me next week. Only ever been once and don't really remember it. I'm sure I would see some new birds aswell

Well done Anthony, I am a biking birdwatcher and thoroughly recomend it.

One of my favourite parts of the day was biking down a lane when a sedge warbler popped out the reeds by the side of the road and belted out his beautifull song in full view. You wouldn't get that in car would already be past it.

This is true Anthony, you do become part of the landscape that you are in, just like the bird itself. As the lanscape changes you feel it too, the sights, the smells, the wildllife.

Tune into the wind that holds up the buzzards and the lees which gather the swallows. Be a part of it, enjoy the scarce birds but enjoy the complexities of the common too.
