I also had a Reed Warbler singing along the River Witham at Kirkstead Bridge, on 11 June, from a willow tree, with only a small area of short reeds nearby.

I have found a partial answer to this question in the BTO Bird Facts section, which gives the habitat preferences of Reed Warbler as Reedbed, then Estuary, then River - so it's not unusual. I had thought (in my ignorance) that they were Reedbed specialists.

A pair of Reed Warblers were breeding in a field of oilseed rape while I was doing a Breeding Bird Survey in Dowsby Fen last week. Not the first time I have seen them in such habitat.

Brian.

There is a spotted flycatcher in the church grounds, mostly seen in the evenings on the gravestones to the left of the main gate. Also one seen daily in a garden about 75 yards south of the church, not visible from the road though. No definite signs of breeding yet.
