I popped into part of the Brocklesby Estate woodlands this morning and found four pairs of Nuthatches all either with fledged young or feeding young in the nest in three quarters of an hour, covering perhaps 30 acres. Earlier this year and last, I've bumped into them quite frequently elsewhere near there and elsewhere. It seems the change in their status in the north of the county that's been under way for a while is now very marked.

The Brocklesby woods (rising from Brocklesby & Great Limber, almost to Caistor) have wide rides open to the public from April to August. They are lovely, dark and deep and if they were in Hamburg or somewhere they'd have Black & Middle Spotted Woodpeckers. I know many birders seldom visit woods outside early spring but now is a good time to confirm breeding for the Atlas, and widely across northern Lincolnshire in particular, there's a lot still needing confirmation of breeding.
