after the large flush of early migrants around the Humber clay pits as of May 7th I have still not heard or seen a single Cuckoo or Turtle Dove where there were respectively 3 males and 5 pairs in 2010 -- a sign of the dire fortunes of these two species? Up to 100 Swifts around now but again low numbers of hirundines and no obvious further arrivals of Reed warblers but Sedge in good numbers; Black Tern and Little Tern (ND) at Barton today

No shortage of cuckoos in my area Graham - I've had at least 6 today and several most days of the week.
Turtle Doves seem to have arrived in better numbers today with 6 or 7 singing at Gib and 2 more in the Anderby area plus my usual garden bird which also arrived today

After seeing a single swift high over Louth on Tuesday, this afternoon, there were around 20 over the town — always a welcome sight.

Saw just one swift over Bardney village today and not many swallows. The only house martins I have seen were over a week ago at Rutland Water. Cuckoos I have heard three but not seen one. Virtually given up on turtle doves but they were scarce last summer

A pair of swifts arrived over the breeding site of our house yesterday, Friday 6th May, my first record of the year. Also a male cuckoo put in an appearance singing at teatime, a very rare sight in these parts of late, in fact I have only had one record a year around Baumber for the last few years. Today there were screaming parties of swifts performing over Horncastle and Louth.
No Turtle Dove sightings as yet at West Ashby the nearest place I have been able to hear purring doves in recent years.

Hi

Heard the Cuckoo in Wragby this morning 08/05. First that I have heard from my House for three years. :D

Malcolm.

Situation very similar further up the estuary with Reed Warblers worryingly scarce but loads of sedge warblers. No cuckoo's and few house martins but swifts just starting to visit nesting site's round Eastoft.

We had a record of a male cuckoo on April 19th but that is the only one that has reached the Far Ings Bird Group's newsdesk.
