It was worth the three hour wait for the White Tailed Eagle to show this morning. Then it was a drive north for the obliging Tawny Pipit (missing the black kite)

An unusual sight for the view point overlooking the fish ponds at Ruckland was a Reeves Pheasant looking rather spectacular with his extraordinarily long tail feathers

Just to confirm its presence as very few people connected today (Tues 26th April), the White-tailed Eagle showed spectacularly well over the fish ponds at Ruckland between c5.15pm and c5.30pm before landing in a tree just to the east of the ponds. It was still sat there when I left at 6.00pm.

The eagle was sat in a winter wheat field for approx. half an hour this morning, before spending 10-15mins soaring over the site at Ruckland between 11.00 - 11.30am being constantly mobbed by common buzzard

Couldn't believe it when I just arrived and you said you had it in your scope - then those fantastic flights with buzzard for size comparison.

We missed the eagle in the morning, but journeyed on to see the Dotterel (thanks for the directions Andrew). had good views of the Dotterel from about 30 mtrs. We walked on hoping to see the Tawny Pipit. Nice to meet Terence Whalin who told us that the pipit had disappeared toward the sea a few minutes before our arrival.
We saw several wheatear as we walked back to the car.
We then retraced our "steps" to Ruckland, the folk there told us that the Eagle had flown off at around 14:30 hrs, oh no !!
Fortunately it reappeared over the fields to the west of the road and gave good views as it crossed over the road closer to the village and flew over the fish ponds. It was being constantly mobbed by buzzards. Certainly the largest living thing I've ever seen flying, the "barn door" analogy is very apt.

I wish to add a comment to a topic written by David Jenkins about the White-tailed Eagle over Litle Cawthorpe/Manby area.
I have looked at the photo that has been uploaded and this is definetley the bird that I have seen flying about.

Location Information: B1200 between Legbourne and Manby

Seen flying and hovering over the area for 3 days from 22/04/2011, times between lunch and 3pm, twice flying towards the coast and Monday 25/04/2011 flying towards the wolds, flying very low too.

showing today again today . any one going to see it on the a16 go to burwell and turn right just before the village its sign posted rutland two miles thats comeing from louth end .

You did well to spot it John, but thats how it goes, we left at 4pm and it had not been seen all day, had also searched down the valley between Farforth and Oxcombe using the public footpaths.

Linda and I were at Ruckland from 3 until 6 p.m. and there was no sign of the eagle.
As stated by Mike, observers that had been there for most of the day had seen nothing.
Possibly of significance, a probable White-tailed Eagle was reported from Norfolk on Thursday afternoon.

Have heard from Dave Sat that the Eagle was still at Ruckland early this morning so whatever was seen in
Norfolk was not the Lincs. bird - unless it made a quick visit and has returned!

The eagle appeared at 2.30pm this afternoon being mobbed by Buzzards and then returned to the woods.

I have just enrolled a new member at lunchtime today called Russ Telfer who had been to Ruckland this morning and had great views of the eagle as it flew directly over him near the fishponds and indeed captured a marvellous image of it.
Hopefully it will appear in the album before too long!

After spending some time with the crowd, with no sightings, went to the public footpath which goes up the hill above Ruckland Church, first sighting just to the East of Woodys Top, the bird then flew eastward towards Burwell, we spotted it 5 minutes later heading South, before locating it again flying west from the top of Tetford hill towards Oxcombe. Time 1610 to 1640.

Spent a couple of hours there today without any luck. It had been seen earlier (12:00) around the fishponds before heading towards Farforth

Had a walk towards the fishponds with Paul and Sandra from Skegness mainly to get out of the wind. There was a guy catching some impressive looking fish (trout?)
