Tree Pipit

a bit late but there were 11 singing Tree Pipits at Laughton on the 9th an amazing number for this date; more surprisingly just had a couple of days in Speyside and there were 20+ Tree Pipits singing plus Redstarts, Willow Warblers, Swallows all well north -- a very early spring that has produced 4 all time earliest ever species for myself in Reed Warbler and Whitethroat 8th, House Martin March 31st and Grasshopper Warbler (3 at Barton) 11th --

on the 8th between Barrow Haven and Target pit at Barton I counted the following:
Chiffchaff 45
Blackcap 46
Willow Warbler 33
Sedge Warbler 11
Reed Warbler 4
Whitethroat 1

Not only have there been a lot of early individuals the spring has been exceptional for the large numbers of early birds of several species -- back in the 1970's I worked out the mean arrival date of Sedge W, Swallow and Willow Warbler on the Humber pits was April 12th and those were the first birds not large arrivals-- in cold Aprils first dates were often as late as 17th
