I received a report this morning of "a massive bird" over the old landfill site just S of Louth on the A16. It's been seen there before...

Phone conversation with Birdguides staff today. They received reports of the W-T eagle over Louth and the landfill.

On Thursday had 5 hours staking out pond and lakes around Ruckland Church to no avail. Had chat with groom from neighbouring commercial stables (who asked that if we sit on road coming South out of Ruckland we avoid the gallop track on left as spooked galloping horses tend to throw riders) who has seen "a massive bird that makes the angry buzzrds that chase it look the size of blackbirds". It was seen Thursday afternoon about 16:30hrs (45 minutes after I left). I went again Saturday and covered the patch from 8:30 am to 17:15 pm. Very exhausting work. Again groom said big bird was seen Friday morning at about 7:45am eating a rabbit and in the afternoon soaring above lakes. Lots of evidence of rabbit and bird carcasses but could be foxes or the multitude of buzzards seen in the area. During the day I did see in the hedgerows and fields:
3 x common buzzard
1 x rough legged buzzard
2 x kestrel
1 x sparrow hawk feeding on post
yellow hammer
chaffinch
garden warbler
wood warbler
black cap
golfinches
brambling
tree sparrow
twite
linnet
woodpigeon
crows
wrens
blue tit
and in the pond and lakes;
mallards
canada geese
swans
tufted ducks

BUT NO WHITE TAILED EAGLE

Happy days - a new hobby so not too disheartened as it was a sunny warm day.
