Any chance this bird (or another) could have been over Tesco @ Cleethorpes at 1310 this afternoon? Was driving and saw a large bird circling which on initial sighting thought was a Grey Heron but as we got closer it clearly wasn't (no long legs etc).

It didn't strike me as "a flying barn door" but it was a substantial and I can't think of anything else it could be. I pulled over but couldn't get a view of it. My son asked what I thought it was and I said all I could think was WTE and he said that it clearly had white on it, which it did seem to have in the tail region.

I may be being a plank but anyone got any ideas what it could have been?

Note: it was last seen heading towards Weelsby Woods so that would be NW direction.

The WTE didn't really show much white, at a distance generally dark, so I don't know what you saw, lots of large gulls high up at the moment??

What's the betting it's still in the Wolds...
If it was in Norfolk we would have an hour by hour account of it's location!

I looked at your picture after I posted David, and it certainly doesn't show a lot of white but what i saw didn't have masses, but there appeared to be some. The distance wasn't that great and yesterday was bright sunshine!

I may not post a lot on here but I am far from a novice and combined with the fact that my office is on Grimsby Docks I think I can tell a what is a Gull and what is not (however large). Dave B advises that a Buzzard is often seen in the Tesco / Weelsby Woods area so that might have been it but as I have said I didn't get the impression of a Buzzard.

ps I don't suppose the flying time from Cleethorpes to the Wolds would be many minutes!!
