A monthly update of the number of days peregrine present on St.James, Louth.
February was a difficult month for recording the pegs. We were away for 4 days and for much of the month, the bird(s) chose the west and north sides of the tower, not visible from our window. The problem was compounded by the bird(s) arriving after dark and leaving at dawn, so just the calls alerted us to their presence.
August: male 15 days + pair 1 day.
September: male 17 days (calling most days) + pair 2 days.
October: male 16 days (calling most days) + pair 9 days (performing spectacular display flights with raucous calling by both).
November: male 17 days (seen carrying prey on 1 day) + pair 5 days + 3 on 2 days.
December: male 17 days + pair 11 days. (Seen sharing a kill on one occasion and several instances of prey being butchered, favoured location is the east side of the tower on the middle gargoyle just below the walkway.)
January 2011: male 17 days + pair 6 days.
February 2011: male 13 days + pair 2 days
March report at end of month. Note, the birds may have been present more frequently, but not recorded by us.
