Having responded to John Badley's request I did a beached bird survey this morning. I carefully planned it to coincide with a low tide to have the best chance of adding some wader species to the winter atlas for TF57.

The good news is that there were no dead/dying or oiled seabirds on this 6km stretch of beach.

The bad news is there were very few live birds either! 13 Sanderling and 1 Ringed Plover (new for TF57 believe it or not) plus a bitingly cold NE wind with plenty of rain mixed in.

Walking back N I called in at Huttoft Pit and had

38 Whooper Swans, 1 Bewicks Swan, 3 White fronted Geese, 6 Pale Bellied Brent Geese.

Mellendene Stores at Sandilands has now reopened and is doing a good line in home made pasties. The cafe by the pullover at Anderby Creek also deserves a plug for being open on a February Monday. Nice bacon and mushroom butty and a mug of tea.

Not quite new Phil as I had one there on 24th Feb which I entered on BTO site fairly promptly!

Thanks John for making an excellent point. If records are not entered quickly other people may be misinformed about what is needed and potentially waste effort looking for something that has already been recorded. Luckily that wasn't the case here.
