Nipping nostrils and painful finger tips return as temperatures go 4 below. Thin ice returns onto the pits and the ground turns to rock. Still, the sun shines and those things that live look rather good.

Sat in Ness hide, the door creeks open, I turn to see who may have walked in but can only see sunlight spilling into the hide. The sunlight is invaded by a growing shadow, it's a person, head and body define themselves on the wooden floor in black but what is that? a great extension jutting out to the side, is this an alien? no! it's another birdwatcher carrying a massive camera.

The 16 brent geese showed again to be flighty and twice they passed overhead before seeing them settle in an arable field just east of Gravel Pit Road.

Reported to me by GPC as seen yesterday was 7 kittiwake heading along the River and a jack snipe near the Blow Wells.

6 adult Kittiwakes picked up through the lens as I was tracking a MR. I have seen Woodcock and Jack Snipe on the patch since the freeze but not a Common Snipe yet!
Pair of Goldeneyes mating on Ness pit this morning now that is amorous.
