A high tide at Freiston Shore produced all the wader throungs expected on the lagoon. A few thousand Dunlin, Knot, Oystercatcher, Curlew, tens of Whimbrels, many Common Terns, tens of Ringed and Little Ringed Plover, Redshanks etc... there could have been a few Golden/Grey Plover there but the sunlight was in the wrong direction for me to fully scan the lagoons. The usual gulls were present.

Drama in the last five minutes on the nearside stretch of grass outside the bird hide. An avocet chick got separated from its parent by a herd of sheep. The bird actually tried to attack one of the sheep! Two other chicks were in the gully directly below the hide, and the adult was trying to get them back together, but I really couldn't see how two very young chicks could possibly climb a steep bank. Astonishingly, they did!! Three reunited chicks then went swimming through the first channel after their parent to the little strip of mud that appears when the water levels are slightly low. If only I was able to film the birds, there'd be a cute little piece for Springwatch!
