From 1615-1800.
King Eider - still present before i arrived, then drifted north along the coast towards Freiston Shore. With one ad male and one imm male Common Eiders (per Alex Parker) Pomarine Skua - Lots. A single flew north, then a flock of 15 appeared and landed on the sea. These then drifted on the tide down towards the Welland channel. A flock of 22 was then seen flying along from Holbeach area, and they then also landed on the water. As the original 15 had by this point disappeared and i'd been looking elsewhere, i'm not 100% sure the two groups were all different birds, although the numbers are accurate. The 22 then started milling around, and 6 of them broke away and climbed before heading off down the Welland. The remaining 16 then sat down again. On a further scan about 10 minutes later, i picked up a flock of 23 flying north! So i really have no idea how many birds were involved today. The max possible count is 61, but i feel this is a gross overestimate. Although i can't be sure, i have to assume that the birds were all the same, which makes a final count of 24 (the final flock of 23 plus an early single). Many of them were again full adults with cutlery. Arctic Skua - 4 Great Skua - 2 Puffin - 2 very close inshore, flying north Manx Shearwater - 3 Arctic Tern - 6 (3 1st yrs, 3 ads) Little Gull - 20 Kittiwake - 92 Slavonian Grebe - 1 close inshore Red-throated Diver - 8 Common Scoter - 10 Green Sandpiper - 1 flying over the Haven
