At about 1000 this morning, a small unfamiliar bird flew south along the dunes near Quad 3 at Donna Nook. It was merely brownish, streaked darker, or in other words quite dark with no distinctive plumage features, but at least its overall shape was quite striking. The head was rather large on a short, thick neck and the bill was heavy, short and conical. The body was short and plump and noticeably raised on the rump. The wings were broad and rounded with rapid beats and the bird maintained level flight. The tail was very short and stumpy and held slightly below horizontal. I could not tell whether the tail was forked or not. The bird was probably about the same size as a Tree Sparrow.

From the limited details that I obtained, the bird struck me as possibly being a female or non-breeding plumaged male of the weaver/quelea/bishop bird complex.
