This horrible disease has hit my garden for the third time in two years. I am quite diligent regarding cleaning my feeders. I feed mixed seed, sunflower hearts and nyjer.
When I clean I strip the feeders and soak them in hot water with Milton added.
I will take down all feeders for a period of three weeks and clean them, in line with recommended practice.
Am I doing anything wrong or am I just unlucky? (though it is the birds that suffer).
Any thoughts/advice would be welcome.

It is quite likely that the birds in your garden are visiting another feeding station lacking your high hygiene standards

I have seen trichomoniasis in greenfinches feeding here for several years up to 2015, including picking up a dead one which had succumbed. I have kept feeding and regularly cleaning and seen no sign of the disease in 2015 or so far this year. Since you are maintaining a high standard of hygiene I suggest you keep feeding in the knowledge that the birds are better served by coming to your feeders than some others in the locality. As John C. suggests it is impossible to know where your visiting birds are picking up the problem.
