Here's a turn-up for the books.

The co-owner of the new tearooms at Nettleton is a former assist warden at . . Fair Isle bird observatory

Kevin Armstrong was at FI, as a 17-year-old, in 1969 and (inevitably) saw some great birds. While there, he encountered a river warbler - only the third record for Britain and Ireland. He was the first UK birder to handle the species - he took it out of the Heligoland for the warden to ring.

He has some great tales to tell about other rarities, plus corncrakes, water rails and others.

The Dunn Deal tearooms only opened last month. Very impressed! Apparently, as and when time permit, Kevin and wife Pat are also intent on transforming the 20 acres adjacent into a wildlife attraction.

Kev is known to a few of us Jim, I referred to him in this post from September.

Linda and I had a look in the tea rooms just before they were opened and were also very impressed!

Roy, I recall your post from September well. I've never seen a raven in the county, so I always scan the hillside and skies when I'm en route through Nettleton.

Do you think there's much prospect of ravens establishing a breeding presence in the county - or would they get too much grief from other corvids/ buzzards?

They are already established and have been for some years

The 2013 LBC report shows that six territorial pairs were reported and three pairs fledged young with two other pairs comfirmed breeding.
