With the posting today of Part Four of my Waxwing article in LBC Bird Chat, the article is now finished.

It's a long read (c7,500 words) but, as originally envisaged, it was to be a comprehensive reference article with some background and personal historical accounts ( which seem to have had a favourable feedback) and the article is now there on the website....to be referred to at some time in the future, when perhaps we have another Waxwing irruption. In that way, we should be able to discover/rediscover what at least one LBC member experienced and reflected on during the Waxwing Winter 2010/11 and Spring 2011. As Hugh Middleton said at the outset, it will also help to remind us of what an incredible 'Waxwing year' it has been.

Excellent Freddy. Thanks for all the work you have put in. As Brian writes on another thread this needs to be preserved. Perhaps it could be posted in its entirety in the article section and hopefully in the next bird report.

As I said to you when trying to encourage you to produce this much is forgotten or lost for future years. This winter will obviously be remembered as a'waxwing year' but the magnitude can only be appreciated when we have the sort of documentation you have produced.

Thanks so much - now over to Andrew Chick and others on the committee to determine how best to preserve this information.

Regards,

Hugh

PS after a waxwing year lets hope for a good painted lady one and no doubt will see you before long as we both look for the first white admirals.

Freddy.

I agree with Hugh's assessment totally.

With today's throw away and have it all age now!!
We seem to lose lot's of stuff that isn't deemed worthy by the arbitrators of taste   that good general interesting articles which are readable and properly punctuated and set out are not suitable!! for saving for posterity.

Let's hope the powers that be are not among the masses.

Yet again Freddy, keep up the good work.
Now we await the next article with anticipation.

Cheers

Brian.

Hugh and Brian,
Thanks very much for your appreciative comments - most welcome. For me, the main thing is that it is no longer an article to be written, but is now on the web, a 'fixed' item for whoever wants to read it, now and in the future.

Regards,

Freddy
PS... I saw my first Red Admiral of the year yesterday and I reckon we have 8 or 9 weeks to go (last week of June/first week of July) before, as Hugh says, we'll be enjoying the White cousin. Well worth the wait and it's only a short drive to Chambers or to Southrey. :D :)
