Update : 9 April.
We are only a third of the way through April, but Lincs Waxwing sightings have all but dried up. However, "Birdguides" latest report for the period 31 March - 6 April states :
"There were still good numbers of Waxwings across central and southern England with scattered groups in central Scotland. Flocks included 130 (Staffs), 120 (Essex), 119 (Dorset), 110 (Merseyside), 80 (Lothian), and 80 (London)."
On the other hand in Lincs it's been a different story :
1st April - Skegness (Beacon Way)..5 (Nigel Lound)
2nd April - I spent over 2 hours in Skegness with nothing to report.
4th April - Bourne (Sainsbury's Car Park/Co-op Pharmacy)..10 (Dave Roberts), 11 Freddy Johnson)
.... Dave Roberts hasn't seen any since although he drives past the 2 sites daily in the
week.
- (a report of 15 on the 5th)
-I visited Bourne again on 7th April but nothing to report.
5th April - Grantham - : Bob Wacey's garden......'6, which paused for seconds only'.
9th April - ..............I visited the previous main stakeout but with nothing to report.
There have been no reports at all so far in April from favoured March sites in :
Lincoln area
Sleaford
Grantham
Louth
Humberston
Healing
Scunthorpe..........and do remember there were hundreds, if not thousands, in the rest of Britain (31 March - 6 April).
After my recent Bourne and Grantham dips especially, I can only say :
We seek 'em here
We seek 'em there
We seek 'em everywhere ;
Are they in Grantham,
Are they in Bourne
Where the hell have those Waxwings gorn ?
Freddy
