Currently on bbc2 good documentary on the efforts to return the marsh areas back to southern Iraq. Good footage of local avifauna. Cheers |

Well worth viewing if available on iplayer. Good footage of basra reed warbler and difficulties in filming within a still unstable country. However post Saddam the marshlands are slowly being restored. |

It was an excellent film,with good flocks of Marbled Teal reported. I noted that the Italians were investing a lot of money in the marshes. I hope they don't intend to make it into their new hunting area ( I believe Egypt is one of their favorite destinations at the moment). The Iraqi plan seems to be to create a tourist haven, although how the local marsh arabs will feel about that will be interesting. |

Great programme John,watched it yesterday,although i wouldn't fancy birding there,I.E.D's and armed escorts,i'll give it a miss i think,although a ride in a Blackhawk would be fun!. Steve. |
