Hi Mick and Mandy

Are you sure it was a Broad-bodied Chaser, I thought it was a bit late for them.

Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick,

We initially thought BBC, it was flying in front of the car ans then landed on road, so pulled over and I got a quick pic!

On studying the pic I managed to get, we think it now may be black tailed skimmer?? Will post pic in album for positive id.

Mandy

Hi Mandy

It certainly looks like a Black-tailed Skimmer, according to my field guide flight season lasts until early August. I'm no dragonfly expert so i'm not sure how unusual it is to see one this late in the summer, maybe one of the dragonfly experts would like to comment (Steve :D )

Thanks
Nick

Hi Mandy/Nick, have commented on the photo put in the album, and you where right, it is a Black-tailed Skimmer,it is a very late record even for this species,i don't remember ever seeing one in September.Broad-bodied Chaser can be on the wing into mid September, but i have never recorded one this late in the year,i guess this refers to the south of the region(Uk and Europe).

Regards

Steve.

Well done Mandy, looks like an unusually late record, thanks Steve.

Cheers
