Hairy Dragonfly and several Red-eyed Damselflies on the Warping Drain just behind Langholme Wood at grid ref SK 751 981. Not sure how common Hairies are in Lincs. Phil |

Hello Phil Hairy Dragonflies are scarce in Lincs and as such I believe are still regarded as 'notable' There are recent records from south of the county in the Baston/Thurlby area and from the Messingham area which has always been something of a stronghold. Interestingly I recorded a male at Whisby (SW Lincoln) just last Saturday. There have been other records from the Lincoln area in recent years, but the species is not recorded on a regular basis here (yet!) This may yet turn out to be a good year for HD's, they have been reported in apparantly good numbers at Messingham Sand Quarry in the last few days. I don't know if your HD refers to a new site or not, but I would recommend that you send your record (and any other Odonata reports) to the County Recorder; Ian Capitt 7 Millthorpe, Nr Sleaford Lincs NG34 0LD e-mail imc@bullen.co.uk Hope this helps. I have been in contact with Ian Capitt regarding records on the forum. I am hopeful that soon all records from the Forum will automatically be forwarded to Ian, in the same way that bird records are all added to the LBC database. I will keep everyone informed? All the best Andrew |
