Were the Variables on the reserve, or on the drain alongside the reserve?

Hi Andy

The Variables were on the Reserve in the area of Willow which was cleared in the winter of 04/05 to the left of the hide. However, very large numbers of Variable can be found in the drain that runs alongside the Reserve. It has to be one of the most important colonies in the county, if not the most important.

Let me know if you want to meet up one fine sunny evening to go and look for them. They should be on the wing for some time now.

It would also be worth looking out for Hairy Dragonfly. I think the species has been recorded here before, the habitat looks spot on, and they should be emerging soon.
