Hi

Yesterday (11th) Trish Thompson confirmed the presence of willow emerald Chalcolestes viridis in Lincolnshire at Baston Fen. At least three were seen (2 males and 1 female) and ovipositing was photographed. If it has arrived at Baston it is likely that more southerly sites such as Deeping Lakes also support it.

This species was confirmed as a British breeding species in 1992 (exuvia found in North Kent). Adults were observed in Suffolk in 2007 and the species has been spreading west and north since then.

Oviposition is in young branches, often of willow, over water and distinctive scarring on the bark is produced.

No mention yet from anybody that Chris Bottomer found, and photographed, 2 Willow Emeralds at Gib Point on Sept 18th. See GibPoint Blog.
