A warmer day yesterday and a fine,warm, humid day today has seen a veritable explosion in numbers of Small Red-eyed Damselflies at Gib Point today. Chris, together with a little help from Monica and myself, counted at least 180 pairs in tandem on Mill Pond, Eric's Pond, Shoveller's Pond and the Mere - they seemed to be everywhere and virtually all industriously ovipositing. There surely would have been more if the sun had stayed out. Worth a look. |

Ed, Searched Rimac ponds and ditches morning 2607 warm sunny, very few damselflies seen,(small red eyed present 2008/9) water levels very low and some ponds and ditches dry, the lowest July water levels recorded since 1976. regards John. |

Given the potential numbers that could emerge next year - if all ponds don't dry up - it is highly likely that they will start to move away from Gib and begin to colonise the hinterland. |

1 pair ovipositing and 1 male north flash, Donna Nook nnr 290710. water levels still declining Saltfleetby, ( fallen 29 inches since early may ) regards John. |
