I have been asked by a researcher to find out whether there is still a small population in the Potterhanworth/Nocton area. He had been informed that there none north of Bourne Woods in the County! Any up to date information would be welcome.

Yes there is still a reasonable population in both Neville wood (private but can be viewed from road and public path) and Potterhanworth wood (several public rights of way through it).

Thanks, Andy, I'll pass that on. Anyone know of any other populations in the county other than those already mentioned?

Stuart,

As far as I am aware, Marsh Tit is common in all woodlands in the south-west of Lincolnshire. It's range probably extends west of a line from Lincoln through Sleaford, Bourne and southwards.
Certainly in Bourne, Elsea, Dunsby, Temple, Ingoldsby and Boothby Woods, Marsh Tit are relatively common and Willow Tits virtually non-existant.

Marsh Tits also occur in the grounds and woodland (both private) surrounding Long Hills Hall just SE of Branston. Presumably part of the Potterhanworth/Nocton metapopulation.

Regards

Grahame

Thanks Alan and Grahame - I will pass this on to Richard. He has had a paper accepted by "Ringing on Migration" relating to identifying the two species by bill colour and is also interested in their range in this part of the world.
