The bullfinch is only a very occasional visitor to our garden and usually when the honeysuckle has its berries, so it came as a pleasant surprise today when Linda spotted a smart male from our lounge window. The behaviour of the bird was most interesting as it was feeding on the seed of Geranium Pheum but with this plant having rather lax stems the bullfinch was not able to perch on it to remove the seed pods. In order to get its feed the bird had to hover before the plant remove a pod and then sit elsewhere to eat the seeds. We saw it perform this action about half a dozen occasions. This just gave me enough time to fetch the camera and fire off a few shots through the window. See album.

Roy.
