I'm sure Andy Sims won't thank me for this but with the recent elevation of Caspian Gull to category A his British list has just reached the BOU 500 mark and with a couple of certs to be ratified soon he can relax in his armchair and watch it grow.

Well done Andy. When's the party?

John

Congratulations Andy, a fine achievement, 30 years in the making and an inspiration to the younger twitchers in the county like me. I recollect you were on 400 in 1986 so it shows you've got to be in it for the long haul to get to BOU500!

You should see what it's done to him physically though, Katherine. All that stress and strain isn't good for a man no longer in the first flush of youth.

Even though looking haggard and weather worn, as all of us in this age group are, Andy can still cycle at a fair lick over 20 miles, next list is the uk green list Andy? John.

Thanks for the replies.

It has taken me 32 years to get to 500 BOU.

I started birding in 1972 and reached 200 with Spoonbill at Minsmere in July 1975, 300 with Richard's Pipit at East Halton in Oct 1980 and 400 with Sora Rail at Pagham in Nov 1985.

How many years to 525?

Outstanding Andy - well done.
Does the addition of Caspian Gull to Category A mean that I can count 234 for my green list last year??

Edmund

As Caspian was only elevated in January then it can hardly count for 2007! However, I'll leave it to your conscience.

John

Surely, if Ed found a Caspian Gull whilst green birding in 2007 and the species is then added to Catagory A the following January, he has every right to add the species to his 2007 Green List, just as other listers will be adding it to their lists. Tick with a clear conscience Ed!

Andy
my birding buddy Dave Sneap sends you his good wishes and congratulations on your recent milestone, he says he has known you years and it puts his 460 ish and my 430 ish to shame. I also offer my own congratulations but 525 would be very tough, a 4 wheel drive zimmer might be needed as you approach the next milestone.
