Back in September Keith Warner described a Strange Goose at Fiskerton Fen.

Today I think I have seen the bird in question. See discussion album.

It was first thought to be a Swan Goose/Chinese Goose but could just be one of the many Geese hybrids.

Having seen a Chinese swan goose on many occasions (there was a long-staying specimen around Bristol docks when I lived in the area) I would suggest the bird in the photo doesn't fit the bill (is that a pun? If so, none intended!).

Geoff

Back in September we only had a description and it seemed to fit with Swan Goose. If this is the same bird then I would agree that it does not tick all the boxes for this species, hence my assumption that it is a hybrid goose of some sorts.

having looked at the photo i can say thats not the same one i saw,ive checked my on the spot notes and the goose i saw had was brown at the front of neck and had a brown stripe all the way down the rear of its neck as well and the head pattern was different as well.

From original post

Quote:
also 1 odd looking goose that was with the greylag,it was similar size similar colouring apart from a white neck, brown band down the rear of neck and along the top of the head, black bill with a white patch behind.

The original description does fit with the bird in the photo, thats why I assumed it may be the same bird.
