What did you do about counts for the Roving Records? Go through BirdTrack as Mark Grantham suggests or ignore the numbers and just enter the species?

John - many farmers seem to think that Bridleways and footpaths across or even adjacent to their land are their own personal property. It's one of the hazards of voluntary survey work. However, one farmer asked me what I was doing and on being told not only invited me to walk through his private wood and gardens but also got in touch with BTO himself to see if he could help

John

I think his main problem was people leaving gates open down there, which is obviously not on, I assured him that it wasn't me, as i've not been there for over a year. It's strange, i've never seen a soul there before, the day I pick to do the birdcount and there are 3 farm vehicles and a lorry there   Oh well I'll go back next week :)

All winter counts now done!

Again, am I the only one having slight difficulty assessing a single 'tetrad population estimate' from two counts possibly months apart?

For example: lets say for Fieldfare,
early count '300',
late count '0'.

Assuming I didn't miss any Fieldfares first time round, am I right in saying that the tetrad population estimate has to be '300'? Could it be anything else? Can anyone else see the problem here?

maybe I'm thinking about it too hard..

Bill

Thank you Bill for mentioning the same difficulty as I am having with tetrad population estimates.

I entered population estimates after my early visit and then added a few more after my late visit for species which weren't seen first time round.

Could someone from BTO give us a definitive answer?
