The 1962 edition of Hollom's Popular Handbook of British Birds includes "N.W Lincs northwards" within the distribution-range of the black grouse. Is there any information about where it once bred and when it became lost to the county?

Which current resident breeding species is most at risk of being lost in Lincolnshire?

The info is in Birds of Lincs (Atkin and Lorand 1989)

...which is available from abebooks.co.uk at scandalously low prices, beginning at 80p + p&p - though you could go for the £108 option. You could also acquire a copy of the Birds of Louth for £8, also extremely good value.

Thanks for those replies.

To share the info, it seems the species (perhaps aided by introductions) had some sort of 19th presence on Whisby Moor, Stapleford Moor, Brumby Common and Twigmoor
Warren, plus the Woodhall district.

The only 20th Century records are said to be from Scotton Common with the last bird, a female, being reported on June 10, 1935.
