Is there any evidence that the goldfinches of today are chunkier than their counterparts of, say, a couple of decades ago?

Maybe I'm imagining it but they don't seem to be as diminutive and lightweight as I remember them from yesteryear.

On February 28th I ringed 37 Goldfinches at a garden feeding site near Osgodby. 22 were males and 15 were females. The largest male had a wing length of 84mm and a weight of 18.3g ( which is exceptional) and the smallest female (they are sexually dimorphic) had a wing length of 76mm and weighed 14.0g. With such a spread it would be difficult to say whether they are larger than 20 years ago and my gut feeling says "no".
