I was sad to see that the artist Basil Ede had recently died. In my view, some of his watercolour studies are as good (if not better) than Thorburn. Initially a right-hander, he trained himself to paint with his left hand after suffering a stroke in his late 50s. Ede donated his portrait of an American bald eagle to the White House where the grateful recipient was President George W. Bush. |
