Just four birds species recorded in two site visits by a professional ecologist !

For the record, the application was refused by North East Lincolnshire Council so the applicant appealed to an independent planning inspector who upheld the refusal decision.

On the downside, the inspector disregarded local concerns about impact on wildlife and stated in his report: "The application was accompanied by a professionally prepared ecology survey which found that the site was not of particular value in this respect. I have no reason to set aside this conclusion."

Disappointing that the inspector did not think to consider whether the ecology report was thorough whether there was any risk that its conclusions might have been influenced by the fact that it had been commissioned by the applicant.

Incidentally, the same consultancy carried out a similar survey at another location (at Sutteron, near Boston) - this time recording 10 bird species:
