I have had cause to travel on the road from South Scarle to Eagle several times recently, the road passes along the edge of Eagle Hall Wood (it's only just in Lincolnshire) SK865655. On most occasions I have seen at least one , maximum 5 Blue Pheasants. They are called tenebrosus pheasants, they can appear to be black from a distance but if you get the light right they are deep blue or an irridescent dark green. the article that I found at http://www.gobirding.eu/Photos/Pheasant.php suggests that they are mostly confined to Norfolk, but there is obviously a population in the area around Eagle Hall Wood.
Has anybody seen any anywhere else in the county ?

Best Wishes
Derek

Derek,
I spoke to a local gamekeeper and Eagle Hall is a shooting estate. The pheasants are bought as poults and released in mid summer so these birds are almost certainly captive bred.

Many thaks for the reply Stuart. I suspected that that may be the case. Although pheasants are not native birds, thay are a magnificent sight whether of the traditional reddish variety or the rarer blue ones

Best Wishes
Derek
