I was sent the following.......I'll give you a week, then I will upload the image that I got sent afterwards - Andrew

Cut and Paste from email (and I have got permission to use!)

I will do my best to describe it -

It was around the size of a rook with a slender body although quite broad. The tail feathers were short and dumpy tapering to a sharp point. Although the wings were folded they were mid grey, the underside was a lighter grey, almost white with slight black speckling beneath the chin. It appeared to have noticeable thin black horzontal wing bars although this was hard to see. The head was broad in shape with a long, tapered beak around 2 inches long. The beak was wader like, not dagger like similar to a heron. The feet were also wader like although not long, about 3 inches. They looked orangeish in colour and were not webbed.

Sorry about the delay... I did get an image in the end - it turned out to be a picture of a Grey Heron!

Puts me in mind of a local newspaper item quoted in British Birds many years ago. The observer had reported walking along a river bank, I think perhaps in Wiltshire, and flushing a dark coloured bird with a white rump. She said it may have been a storm petrel and was definitely not a jay!
