A visit to Burniston, near Scarborough today,to see the reported male Desert Wheatear, had us get excellant views of the bird,at one point as close as 8 feet away,as it fed on the cliff top, what a lovely bird. Other birds in the area included 2 Lapland Buntings, male Merlin and about 150 Siskin(south). Another visit to Scarborough, produced the resident Black-throated Diver in the harbour,Peregrine along marine drive and 5 Mediterranean Gulls(4 adult and 1 2nd winter) in Holbeck car-park.Another excellant days birding in North York's. Regards Steve, with GPC. |

I also caught up with a Desert Wheatear today except I headed for the one at Horsey, Norfolk. This bird was also very obliging, I took some photos of it which are on my web site, although I think half the bird photographers in the country have taken photos of it judging by the number of lenses there today. |

Very impressive photo's Nick, this bird must have been incredibly tame, the only thing that spoilt it with the Yorkshire bird was the wind,it was blowing a gale up there. Regards Steve |

Thanks Steve, the bird was enticed with meal worms and kept returning to a particular area, so it was just a matter of waiting at this location. It was windy at Horsey and there was a bit of a sand storm on the beach but the bird was inland of the dunes which served as a wind brake. I have seen the photos of your bird on GPC's blog, looked like a nice bird. |

It would be nice if one appeared on the coast exactly half way between these two birds! |
