Post subject:  East Leake European Bee Eaters
After hearing about this earlier in the week nipped over to East Leake to see the Bee Eaters yesterday afternoon. To give credit to both the RSPB, Notts WT, and the local farmer getting a view of these beautiful vagrants is straight forward.

A car park has been set up, on the left as you come out of Rempstone, and the viewing point is on the opposite side of the road on the left.

Viewing is best with a scope, although the RSPB and NWT have scopes up to see the birds in an Ash tree.

Just hope everyone sticks to the paths, so as not to spoil this spectacle for everyone else.

Today (Thursday), I switched from watching Spotted Flycatchers catching flies to watching Bee-eaters eating bees (and also dragonflies). Thanks, Andrew, for a few tips in your post.

After an early start from Lincoln, my son Alex ( on leave from (Somali) anti-piracy duties), and I arrived at the East Leake car-park at 8am. We were soon watching the Bee-eaters in the sun at the stakeout, mainly coming and going to the bare upper branches of a massive Ash Tree by the quarry. Throughout our stay, the Ash Tree was hardly ever without a perching Bee-eater or two,- often four and on one occasion five. A Great-spotted Woodpecker joined them briefly. The birding 'crowd' never exceeded 15.

I was able to relax on this particular twitch as Alex not only did the driving but also carried my (heavy) 'scope and took photographs. :D =D>
