I spent a week on Fair Isle in the company of Andrew Chick, Phil Espin and Andy Sims. We flew to Sumburgh on 15th (where we saw a Siberian Stonechat) then to Fair Isle for a 7 nights on 16th. Migrant and vagrant birds were many and it was great to see migration occurring on such an obvious scale all about us as well as good numbers of local species. Birds included
Whooper Swans
Pink-footed goose
Barnacle Goose
Greylag Goose
Velvet Scoter (a rarity here where the warden has seen more PGTips!)
Long-tailed Duck
Slavonian Grebe
Hen Harrier
Merlin
Glaucous Gull
Short-eared Owl - often in double figures
Long-eared owl
Richard's Pipit - fairly common
Olive-backed Pipit 1
Red-breasted Flycatcher 1
Bluethroat 1
Pallas's Grasshopper warbler 1
Radde's warbler 1
Siberian Rubythroat 1
Fair Isle Wren
Yellow-browed warbler - many
Goldcrest - many
Little Bunting
Snow Bunting
Lapland Bunting
Ortolan Bunting 1
