Midway through April, and the chalk cliffs at Bempton are simply alive with avifauna. All the usual birds are there in their thousands!
An unexpected trip there garnered PUFFINS ( YAAAAAY!
), Kittiwakes, Gannets, Fulmars, Razorbills, Guillemots and assorted Black-backeds milling around with plenty of Rock Doves on the cliffs too. Gannets were tearing loads of grass from the tops of the cliffs to use as nesting material, and engaged in lovely bill-tapping. Many Guillemots were doing lots of head-nodding, presumably courtship? A Swallow joined my day's list when it zoomed past me at close range - probably no more than 2 metres or so. Lots of Tree Sparrows on the feeders, along with 2 Goldfinches, 5 Chaffinches, a Dunnock and a Greenfinch. 2 White Wagtails were looking for food scraps close to the Visitor Centre.
Humber Bridge (one of my favourite British landmarks) looked splendiferously EPIC in the sunlight.
