I thought I would spread my wings this morning and drive to Hessle Road, Hull to check out the reported large numbers of Waxwings there.

Arriving c.9.00, with some 30 other birders I spent over 2 hours enjoying the frequent flocks of Waxwings visiting the Rowan trees in the ASDA Car Park. The largest flock was c.130-140 but several smaller flocks of 20-40 birds flew in from time to time during my stay...With such large numbers feeding, the berries will only last another couple of days or so.......if that long.

I was pleased to resume my acquaintance with these charismatic birds after too long a wait.

About a week ago a chap at far Ings mentioned the hull waxwings so today 12 nov I took a detour as I was heading for hull camera shop..on my arrival at asda I was disappointed not to see any..I had not seen a waxwing before..but then after I'd been in shop because it was raining I emerged to 100's of them..lots n lots..as Freddy said..a bonanza..albeit quite dark but great to see..also told they were at tesco from a spurn birder.
