Idle Valley NR:
15/11/13;C: Chainbridge Scrape - 2 BITTERN seen in flight interacting for 30 minutes yesterday.

16/11/13:
Chainbridge Scrape - 5 Little Egrets, 2 Ruff, Kingfisher.
Windsurf Pool - 16 Red-crested Pochard.
Hayton Common - Flock of c100 Linnet.
Conservation lake - Single Barnacle Goose 'of unknown origin' with Greylags and Canada's.
Clayworth Common - 22 Whooper Swan (including 3 juveniles) , 2 Buzzard. over.
Tiln North - 3 Egyptian Geese still in adjacent field.
Walters Lane Pit - 4 Shelduck.

Off reserve:
Blaco area - 4 Ruff & 2 Buzzard reported.

24th - 25th November
Chainbridge NR Scrape - BITTERN again flying from small island into reeds in NE corner of scrape. Also Water rail, Black-tailed Godwit, 3 Ruff, 4 Little Egret, 2 Dunlin.
Neatholme Fen - Ruff, Little Egret.
Neatholme Pit - fem. 2 Little Egret, Sparrowhawk, 2 Green Woodpecker.
Neatholme Lane - 2 Jays, 4 Bullfinch.
Bellmoor Lake - Four Goosander, 7 Snipe.

Adjacent Sites:

Blaco/Mattersey - male HEN HARRIER hunting over fields between Mattersey Priory and Blaco pits.

Clayworth Common - 25 Whoopers (inc 8 juveniles).

Tiln North Pits - 2 Egyptian Geese, 2 'feral' Pink-footed Geese, 1 'feral' Barnacle Goose & 720 Greylag Geese.

Bearded Tit sighting - a new species for the reserve! + 12 Egyptian Geese.

Chainbridge NR Scrape: Bearded Tit over, 4 Little Egret, 4 Snipe, 1 Ruff, 1 Dunlin, 5 Shelduck, 40 Fieldfare, 30 Redwing.

Clayworth Common - 9 Egyptian Geese in the fields next to bend in the River Idle.
Also 26 Whooper Swans (including 8 juveniles) still present.

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - 3 Egyptian Geese.

Neatholme Fen - Ruff, Little Egret.

10th Jan.2014:
Pretty quiet here in the Idle Valley.
With a 1w Glaucous & 2w Iceland Gulls in Neatholme Roost this evening.
Firecrest still in hedgerow along Hallcroft Fishery access Rd., off Randell way, Retford.

Whoopers & Egyptian Geese still present on Clayworth common.
Plus lots of wintering wildfowl throughout reserve including Goosanders, Wigeon, Teal & Gadwall.
Only a few Goldeneye, Little Egrets & the odd Buzzard scattered throughout the reserve but no owls this winter yet..

Good numbers of wildfowl in area.
With a site count today of c250 mute Swan, 31 Whoopers, c140 Greylag Geese, c75 Canada Geese and 326 Shoveler......

Walters Farm - Single Brambling with c100 Chaffinch + c120 Fieldfare & Sparrowhawk in sheepfields.

Chainbridge NR Scrape: 5 Ruff, Oystercatcher, 3 Little Egret and 4 Goosander, 8 Shelduck, 2 Buzzard over. + Chiffchaff feeding in reeds along riverbank.

Neatholme Scrape: Dunlin, male Pintail, 2 Shelduck.

Neatholme Fen: 5 Ruff (Presumed same as Chainbridge birds)

Bellmoor lake: 9 Goosander, 4 goldeneye, 15 Pochard, 11 Tufted Duck, 3 Snipe.

Adjacent Clayworth Common & Tiln Nth. Lakes: 31 Whooper Swan, 200 Mute Swan, 3 Goldeneye, 10 Tufted duck.

No recent reports of Firecrest, Lesser Whitethroat or Sibe. Chiffchaff at Hallcroft Fishery.

Slavonian.Grebe still present on 'Cross Lane fishing Pit' (Opposite ski club gate).

Chainbridge NR Scrape: 5 Ruff, Ringed Plover, 2 Oystercatcher, Little Egret, 3 Buzzard over.

Chainbridge Pit: 11 Goosander.

7 Egyptian Geese on Clayworth Common but distant.
