As we have had no Waxwings reported at all in Lincs for 10 days ( the last ones were the 11 which I reported from Bourne on 4th April ), and thinking perhaps no more will appear in Lincs this spring, I checked "Birdguides" this morning for the nearest reported birds as of 13th/14th April.

By coincidence, the site turned out to be in Melton Mowbray, Leics : 12 in Cowslip Drive (13th).. This meant that I would have to drive on the A 607 through Harlaxton, where my daughter lives and I could call in .....which I did. This would be the first Waxwing-chasing trip for me outside Lincs this winter/spring.

I arrived in Cowslip Drive at 12.45 and immediately spotted a prominent berry-laden Cotoneaster tree in the front garden of No.4, the only one I could find in the Drive. I parked up about 15 yards away, opened up my sandwiches, and settled down " to wait "....hopefully for 12 Waxwings.

However, 3 Waxwings flew in at c 1.20, gobbled up some berries and then flew off after about 3 or 4 minutes. This activity was repeated at c 1.40, 2.00 and 2.45 and each time just 3 Waxwings. So, presumably 12 on the 13th had become 3 on the 14th ! But, at least, I saw 3 - and on 4 occasions - and didn't dip out. :D :)
